Virtual Coding Classes


Registration Information

All classes are filled on a first-come first-served basis. Each class is limited to 8 participants. Classes are appropriate for students in grades 3-5. All virtual classes will be held on Zoom.  A link will be sent to parents/guardians a few days prior to class. Additional classes will be added soon!

Introduction to Coding with Scratch

Date: October 22, 2024  

5:30 PM - 6:30 PM

6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Stop playing games on the computer and start MAKING them! In this introductory course participants will learn computational thinking and problem solving skills as they create a classic "Catch the Apples" game. While making the game we will learn how to load and code sprites, how to add sound effects, and add a score variable. Participants will also learn how to customize their game and share it with family and friends! Let's get Scratching!


Dodgeball with Scratch

Date: October 29, 2024

5:30 PM - 6:30 PM

Do you have what it takes to be the next Dodgeball champion?  In this fun game we will learn how to add a title screen, a game over screen, and learn how to adjust the size of sprites to make our game look 3D. And we will add "Score" and "Lives" variables!  Prerequisite: Children should have some prior experience with Scratch. Let's get Scratching! 


Space Invaders with Scratch

Date: November 12, 2024

5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

Introduced in 1978, the original Space Invaders is as classic as it gets! In this 90 minute workshop we will create a Scratch version of the iconic Space Invaders arcade game.  In this project participants will learn how to use the "cloning" feature to create multiple copies of alien sprites and learn how to make our blaster cannon shoot lasers.  Prerequisite: Children should have some prior experience with Scratch. Let's get Scratching! 


Flappy Bird with Scratch

Date: November 19, 2024

5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

In this workshops participants will create their very own side-scroller Flappy Bird style game. We will learn how to create a "scrolling background" effect and add a timer to keep track of the score.   Prerequisite: Children should have some prior experience with Scratch. Let's get Scratching!
